Associate Pastor Search |
Friedens Associate Pastor Search Team was formed in August 2011. The members selected by the congregation are: Jeff Bormann, Chair, Sharen Carley, Secretary, Teresa Hudson, Devotional leader, Ryan Richter, Barbara Pape, Artie Rittimann, Donna Sureddin, and Bruce Ward. Members appointed by the Friedens Church Council are David Lamensky, President of the council and Nelson Harborth, Vice President of the Council. Also serving on the committee is our senior pastor, Pastor John Roberts.
Statement of Need for Friedens Associate Pastor:
- - The Alban Institute (the leading think tank in the World on church growth and dynamics) states that once you have an average attendance of 150 persons in worship and only one full time minister you are staffed not for growth, but decline. This is because one minister can attend to and meet the needs of about 100 people on the average. Once you get past 150 the needs become too broad and too varied for proper pastoral care to take place.
- - We need professional help and expertise to funnel our vast potential in the areas of Youth and children. Our current youth program is not in viable shape. An Associate would help to set up a long term program that our younger children would look forward to growing into. Our children's ministry is going very good, but burnout of the teachers, and lack of new personnel threatens long term viability. Moreover, we remain in a maintain mode rather than an aggressive growth stance that can only come with full time professional leadership.
- - The lack of "Adult Bible Education" and culture of "just going to church" continues to dominate. An Associate could come in, attract and train key small group leaders, coach them, and then help to facilitate many small groups.
- - Our impact and footprint of the church could be greatly enhanced by the development of new services not only here at Friedens but also in terms of possible satellite services. This growth in turn, would greatly impact the growth of monies, partners, multiplication of talents and needs being met, etc.
- - The rapid growth and success of FELA has shown the need and desire for such a program in this community. However, it has been able to grow due to the generosity and servant hood of two directors. Having a paid professional to help continue to push the development and growth of this program will benefit the school as well as the church.
- - Our current energy level on visitation of the homebound and shut ins is inconsistent and ad hoc. A systems approach would greatly enhance our level of care and ministry.
- - Another professional clergy will continue our upward trend of impacting the greater UCC church. I.e., with our growth comes increased influence and relevance at the conference and national level.
- - The danger of continuing without adding an Associate is that we continue to merely perpetuate a Pastoral Driven Model of doing church versus a Program driven model of church. That is, we continue to over rely upon the energies of the Senior Pastor and expecting continued growth without providing the necessary infra-structure to sustain/continue such growth.
